At the end of each school year, schools across NYC typically discard perfectly reusable items en masse. For the 2nd year in a row, schools can participate in the Materials for the Arts Classroom Supply Drop and & Swap. Be sure to ask your local school to participate ASAP - school ends June 27!
Materials for the Arts has organized collection events of school supplies in each borough. The Manhattan event takes place on June 26 using PS333 on West 93rd as the drop off site. A number of schools on the Upper West Side are already participating and partnering with their local Buy Nothing Group. Acceptable school items can be transported to this drop off location on June 26 or can be dropped off directly at Materials for the Arts at any time - but call first to confirm drop off hours and details. They are located just over the 59th Street Bridge so be sure your school is aware of this great organization and their efforts to reduce school waste! WHAT IS A CLASSROOM SUPPLY DROP AND SWAP?
Bring excess markers, pencils, fabric, and other materials
"Shop” materials from other teachers to take back to the classroom
Any excess supplies at the end of the Drop and Swap will go to Materials for the Arts’ warehouse to be distributed to schools and nonprofit organizations
